What engine?
I have a '85 Autosleeper that appeared to start life as a 1.9 petrol. It has had a diesel conversion ( 1600 non turbo I think ) but I cannot any reference to the engine number - " 15403X ". Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: What engine?
Diesel engine numbers are on the top edge of block between injector pump and vacuum pump I believe.

What engine?
So your engine number is
CS15403
The prefixes ‘CS’ in your case, always rub off.
50bhp CS 1.6
I’m wondering if the X suffix or ️ refers to a rebuild at some stage.

Re: What engine?
Thanks for the info - it would make sense! The starting battery was left under driver's seat - is it a good idea to move it? How did engine provide vacuum for the brake servo? Thanks again for all the help!

Re: What engine?
If you move the starter battery to the rear via a battery shelf then you will have spade in the front to have 2 leisure batteries. This is what I have. Or anything you might want to put in the space left by the battery.

Re: What engine?
If you look by the oil filter housing there is the connection for the brake vacuum pipe which comes out of and travels forward to the brake servo same as the petrol engine did.

Re: What engine?
if you look at my engine and see the large coolant pipe coming from the block the brake vacuum pipe is just to the left of that and then goes through the bulk head next to the fuel return pipe
Below is a close up pic of the vacuum connection

Re: What engine?
Thank you everyone - just one last puzzle. I wonder if the original 1.9 petrol gearbox is still installed - and if so would this be appropriate for the 1.6 diesel?

Re: What engine?
do you know what code it is, the code is located on the nearside, and look for a flat surface near to the end of the ribs looking forwards.
Look at this website and it will give you gear ratios that should be for each type of engine and year..
