Yeah does sound a bit daft  , although for first time doing it I found it really simple compared to some jobs I've done on the van.

Also its always the small jobs that bite you in the a*** ;)

Good luck, Steve.
One month after wrecking the 2.1, lve finally got the 1.9 on the road for a test drive.
There is a marked difference in the power between the 1900 and the 2.1. Perhaps the auto drive sucks up some go-go. Or perhaps, at the moment, lm being overly gentle with the temporary 1900 engine as
I fitted new pistons rings. So it is still bedding in?
In contrast, Steve, you will be mightily glad running a 2.1 on carb. They rock!

Thanks Stu,

Today was spent cleaning up the exhaust and refitting it with new belt, fitting the alternator and buttoning up everything.
Then decided to put coolant in then watched it leak out the thermostat from the sensor and between the housing parts.
Tomorrow oil is going in and I will then fit the fuel pump and try see if I've got enough wire for it.

I think I made a booboo though with the syncro thermostat housing as the sensors are threaded and the temp gauge sensor is different as in it's a one wire one and not two wires so not sure how I am gonna go about resolving that.

That was the worst one of many. I managed to damage the thermostat to block o'ring.

just cut off the 2 pin connector to temp sender and put a 6.3mm spade terminal on the signal wire, that fits the switch and earth the brown wire and the gauge will work

So today no startup as yet, found some coolant weeping from the top oil cooler hose after fiddling and swearing at it a bit I think I need a stronger clip for it, do have a spare hose for it if need be as well.

Filled the engine with oil, then looked under to see it pissing out of one side, one of the pushrod seals was squashed inwards so a quick jiggle of the pushrod cover shifted it into place. Sorted the temp gauge wiring (thanks Aidan)

I WAS going to fit the electric fuel pump, but I've not got enough wire, so guess what? Mechanical one went on for now. :rofl

Cranked the engine without plugs in to build oil pressure and make sure no leaks, everything seems fine

So tomorrow will be the running in... I hope!
