All the parts arrived for my tachometer today, so I just had a quick look for the connection I need to tap into.
I think I have found it.

The wires are exactly the same as the petrol one's in the original post. Can someone please confirm that the wire's I need to tap into are the same one's also?
I have a feeling the W clip wire may be different?

The diesel wiring diagrams I have found online don't seem to be very clear (could be me).

I will hopefully get this all running tomorrow.
Cheers.

the connections are labelled on the blue plastic circuit board on the reverse side of the tab iirc, in German, wire colours are DIN standard I believe

Bentley doesn't give the pin outs for late diesel as its US market and thus petrol only

Cheers Aidan, I will try and look for that label tomorrow.

I saw another post on an American site that stated that the W terminal wire is the all red wire on the diesel connector. I will try and double check this with the label tomorrow.

Thanks for all the help, I got it working this morning.

Turns out a (late) diesel Tachometer is wired up exactly the same as the petrol one in this post.

Took me 20 minutes to fit and I'm really pleased with how it looks.
Also, someone mentioned I wouldn't be able to to tune/adjust the tachometer myself. It's very simple, all you need is an app that can read your rpm via sound (free on google play) and a small Phillips screwdriver. Done.

I tested the app against my 2.0TD daily driver whilst using the OBD2 real time scanner. It was almost spot on! Certainly good enough for me 👍

Hi Rob, I've downloaded a few apps. The one I found easiest to use was called "Bike RPM".

Set the app to 4 Stroke and 4 Cylinder (or more) and hit "run".

Test it with your daily driver 1st to confirm you've got it set up right.

It's this one. Once you install it, it's called "Bike RPM"

No worries (Hairy is fine), I'm glad I could finally give back on the forum. Let me know how you get on.

I may make a write up for more diesel owners on here. It turned out to be a pretty simple install, but there isn't a lot of information available.

One thing to be aware of with the diesel tacho is that they can be quite sensitive to damp, well mine is. I have one installed in my van and during the winter in can sometimes take while for it to work.

I'm guessing you've already connected the wiring for illumination but if you tap into the original clock lights it's then dimmable along with the others.

That could be useful. Does it involve tapping into another wire, or do you need to mess with the blue plastic circuit?

I think I'd rather mess the aftermarket tachometer than a 40 year old circuit board.
