high roof sealant ?????????

Post by "WEAZLECHIN" »

i phoned sikaflex, asking what sealant to fit a high roof onto a van.
they said "sikaflex caravan" 512 or 252, but he reckons i would need to remove the paint from the joining surface of the van!! remove the paint ? is that really neccesary ?

i would say that if u rub it down with a scotch pad then clean it really well with thinners to remove any trace of grease from your hands it shoul be ok but remeber to wear gloves to stop any grease or sweat etc from your hands getting on it once cleaned

Remove the paint. Yes.
Otherwise the bond will only be as good as the paint bond to the metal. In an old van that isn't necesarily going to be that good.
It's one of those situations, "you don't have time to do it right first time, but you probably have time to do it twice wrongly ".
