Rod and Balance Bar (break system)

Post by cscorbet »

Apologies, I’m new to T25’s.

I’m told this connects the front hand break to the rear break cables, but I’m not able find a re-manufactured part, anyone know otherwise?

Cheers.

Has the hand brake stripped the thread on the rod?

Don't think so - I think its bent and a bit corroded.

You have to take the fuel tank out, yours might clean up, give it a good scrape and then decide if its really bad.

Hmm, looks just like mine. I assumed they were meant to be asymmetric and to sit at just such an angle. And that looks like white grease, rather than corrosion, so maybe you're ok? But best to take it off and clean it up so you can assess the corrosion. But can anyone else shed light on the asymmetry?

Thanks bigherb, so that’s the replacement for the Rod? Is there a replacement for the end bit that connects the rod the cables?

Thanks multisi & RogerT, I’ll speak to the garage about the condition of both bits.

Found the part for that I think, but looks to be discontinued.

That part looks OK, it actually is meant to sit at an angle.

Yes, Big herb is right, I think most of us have a bar like that...I know I do.
Usually the thread strips from mal adjustment.

Hi - new member here.

I realise that this is a very old thread and may never get answers, but I'm clutching at straws here.

Please can anyone suggest where I may be able to obtain a handbrake cable 'Balance Bar' ?  The bar that front and rear cables meet at.  My van is a 1981 Type 25 which is being restored.

Many thanks

Peter

Your best bet would be to try contacting Mick Crowe - nw_vw_T25

You might need to register to join the club through the Membership link at the top of the page in order to send him a private message ... although you should probably do this anyway
