Strange dipstick tube position

Post by Toc »

The arrangement of the dipstick tube on my machine is the oddest setup I've ever seen before, it doesn't make any sense.
It's impossible to get an accurate reading as it enters from the side, after a curve.

Have any of you ever seen anything like this before?

Even if this setup worked, I would have to remove the engine bay lid every time I was checking oil levels , seems totally impractical, what do you guys think ?

i would say that engine came out of a T4? As they have the dipstick on the opposite side of the block. i guess the installer couldn't be bothered to drill the block in the correct place for a T3 which is on the same side as injectors, pump etc

I am thinking of getting the oil filler neck replaced , one without the curve on it so I can get a new dipstick tubing right down the centre of it , not sure if it's even possible

This is what I have at the moment , standard fitting I guess

It's a 1.9, not sure it came out of a t4 but yeah , whoever did the conversion didn't bother to drill the block for a t3, instead put it in a crazy side entry

id rather drop the sump and drill the block in the correct position than muck around with the oil filler

Lloydy, do you think it would be possible to get a dipstick tubing to fit so It can appear out at behind the reg plate for easy access?
If I drilled the block I mean ??

Plus it's so thick , there would be so much metal shavings, obviously no problem if the block is out sitting on a workbench , hope it's not gonna get to that though

the factory dipstick comes over the alternator and is accessed through the numberplate flap

Yeah block was drilled today, that's the arrangement of the dipstick tube I'm going for, over the alternator and accessed through the reg plate

The factory dipstick tubing is the original piece, it had just been put in a silly place and enter from the side
