Re: engine swap
symptons are
start the van up and it drives beautifull
then 30/40 mins later it stalls engine ticks over but no accelaration
switch van off and leave for 15/30 mins and starts again
changed most things over done the timing checked all the pressures all the temp sensors ignition switch eyc and still stumped
i am willing to have it shipped to the uk if someone wants to give it a crack
thanks

Re: engine swap
I would look at the Ignition module or the coil overheating (my gut says the latter) i.e. it's on the way out. Can't be too much wrong if it will run for over half an hour, unlikely to be fuel related.

Re: engine swap
Seconded, overheated electrical component. I think I'd hang in with this engine just a little while longer. We may help you nail it.

Re: engine swap
Hi Aiden
After it dies the engine still ticks over and appear,s to be hunting
when i put my foot on the accelarator it does nothing no revs but still ticks over
when i turn the ignition off and leave it for 15/30 mins it will start up fine and off we go untill another 30mins then same again
aiden you might remember a guy called krakinwagen on here helped me out a lot with this issue
i know he was ringing you while we were checking things 1989 carat is my van.
Silver bullet
We changed the ignition module, which is attached to the left side of the engine bay?beside the coil, we also changed the coil.we checked the readings from the ecu to the temp sensors and cleaned all the grounds.each component we changed woked in the other van
Covkid
I admire your positivity
and too you all thanks for replys.

Re: engine swap
Stick a 1.9 DG carb/manifold on it and sell the injection set up (as faulty) to recoup the cost.

Re: engine swap
Cop out! Sounds like the AFM could be faulty i.e. needs its tracks cleaning.

Been discussing this for about 2 years ... possibly more, it was never resolved SO 'cop out' or not it would be a working alternative so NER !

Re: engine swap
I'm with ian on this one..
it's about the simplest injection system you just need someone who understands it (an preferable has a supply of "known good" parts) to look at it

And if you can't/don't want to go to someone who DOES understand it ..... ?
