Have fitted a couple chap. Been a few years but from memory no issues. Shorter block so no pump/ engine cover issues. A lot better drive with the better pump.

Sounds good chap. Just treat it as you would swapping a jx for a jx .
( that's if you are using jx manifold , turbo and inlet manifold) . You will need to cap the water outlet in the core plug though) that's about as tricky as it gets.

Re: Fitting a "SB"engine
I think syncroandy has one fitted which he did a couple of years ago - I'm sure I've seen a thread on here about it. Also mig (?) has been doing one recently.
Would be interested in seeing some more information about this and some pictures.

Re: Fitting a "SB"engine
Have any of you lot used the intercooler, did it make any difference? and what about the water cooled turbo any good?
I got both with the engine!

Re: Fitting a "SB"engine
I fitted an SB to my pickup in 2007. As said above it's an easy swap, I just used all the JX parts, plus a new K14 turbo. The original SB w/c turbo probably isn't worth the hassle to plumb it in. The intercooler is a faff to install of course, but necessary. I used a Pace chargecooler from a F*rd, but on a 2WD you could get away with an intercooler fitted (eg.) next to the gearbox. I fitted an oil cooler, oil temp gauge, and EGT gauge, then tweaked the fueling a bit. If you want to stick with a 1.6 IDI engine, the SB is probably your best bet, and can be tuned quite a bit. TBH though, with hindsight I should have fitted an AFN, which I eventually did in 2012.

Thanks Andy,just the info I needed..on the JX I have a front mounted oil cooler,oil pressure [front of the head .95bar at 850rpm/2.5bar at 2900rpm hot]oil temp 110 deg c max,egt 800deg c max and a boost gauge .6bar max.

Pictures of EVERYTHING! Seriously though, anything that you can post would be great because there doesn't seem to be a lot of SB information available, and the nature of the conversion from a JX makes it sound like an atractive proposition.
Personally I'd love to see some pics of your current installation as well. Our JX is running really well, although it is obviously a bit underpowered on the hills, but an EGT sensor, oil cooler etc, are things I'm considering adding to our current engine to keep it healthy. I'd also be interested in some pics of the intercooler installation from the SB as I understand the engines are so similar we might be able to do something similar for our JX.
