Oil Buzzer query
Hi
Had a quick look through the forum for some advice about the oil pressure buzzer warning. Mine suddenly started going off constantly, but I'm convinced it's an electrical problem as I have checked and topped up the oil level, and coincidentally the blower fan has started working again (it wasn't when I bought the van).
The van doesn't have the original engine fitted which is making it more difficult to determine the problem; does anyone know if there a way to test the oil pressure sensor?
Thanks in advance

Re: Oil Buzzer query
Have a look over the engine to see if you can find a second switch
the v6 may only have one in which case the buzzer will have been silenced by grounding its switch connection
if that's the case then that grounding may have failed
also v6 has more ignition pulses so if you have a second switch then dash will be looking at pressure lower than 2000 rpm

Thanks for the tips, I am going to have a good look around this morning to see what I can find. The link you sent was very useful also.

If you want to check oil pressure I have a wet guage with a range of threaded plugs to suit most engines you can borrow (in soton)
when you find the switch(s) get a pic up, it says alot to us lot

Re: Oil Buzzer query
Thanks matey
I'm absolutely convinced this is just an indication problem. From what you've said, the indicator needs two inputs - the correct pressure from the engine and the correct speed via the alternator. The light/buzzer are on constantly from the moment the ignition is turned on with or without the engine running i.e. without receiving an input from either. But It would be good to know what he oil pressure is so perhaps I could borrow that wet gauge from you sometime?
Had a good look around the engine, there appears to be only one pressure switch; photo to follow when my phone is charged up. Having a look at the Ford V6 forums there is only one switch on the 2.3 cologne engine and it looks exactly like this one:
http://cfront.burtonpower.com/media/cat ... nder_3.jpg" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The light/buzzer remain on with the ignition on even when the pressure switch is disconnected.
I had a look at the alternator for the "W" cable mentioned in the brickworks forum (seeing as my van used to be a diesel) but couldn't identify it.
Had a good look around the cabling behind the dash seeing as these problems started when I pulled the stereo out (it kept turning off intermittently) and couldn't find anything obvious. My missus is desperate to take the van out to Royal Victoria park today so as a "temporary solution" I have disconnected the warning indications from the dashboard
Wish me luck

Re: Oil Buzzer query
They yellow wire from the second high pressure switch (the one that sets the buzzer off ) goes via the fusebox to the dash
many people ground that wire to silence the buzzer and do it at the engine end, if it fails the buzzer will go off
If you cut the yellow wire by the dash multiplug and ground that (dash side) it will be quiet.
Also check the dash 'edge connector' is clean and not dirty.

Re: Oil Buzzer query
Well the van survived the drive to RVCP, it was fine so definitely indication problem I think.
Cool, I was hoping someone might be able to identify the buzzer supply from the dash multi plug as it is a bit disconcerting not having the other indications (especially the fuel gauge haha!)
Thanks for your help, I will try to ground the yellow cable and see how that goes

Re: Oil Buzzer query
Hey, sorry for late reply, just spent a week in France (without the van
), just got back last night so I thought I'd give your bodge a go.
So I snipped the yellow cable going into the dash multiplug and connected it directly to earth using a chocolate block - no change. Still got constant buzzer/oil lamp as soon as ignition goes on, with or without the engine running.
Is there any change it could be a different cable supplying the buzzer?

Withor without engine running has to be a dash fault imo

Re: Oil Buzzer query
OK so award for stupid owner goes to me. I was earthing the input instead of the multiplug
Result - no buzzing when ignition goes on, oil pressure lamp goes out when engine runs! Success - thank you
