Syncro engine swap - DJ to AGG
And so its starts. What better way for a chap to spend 16 days while his wife is away.
This should be easy eh!
Step 1 = take DJ out
step 2 = take AGG out
step 3 = put AGG in
What could possibly go wrong?
Don't worry - van is on axle stands at the rear and chocked both ways on front wheels.
Engine and gearbox weigh around 250Kg I reckon.
First question - what the best way with these vans to lower the engine and box onto the floor?
A hand winch on some 2x4 timbers over the engine hatch?
A traditional free standing engine hoist?
Oh, and its raining. Bloody typical!

Patrick. I will try to contain my disappointment in your loss of faith this Easter and pray for you accordingly. At least it's not an oil burner
DJ is circa 110kg worst case with all its clothes on, syncro transmission about 60kg iirc
Defo use a folding crane. It makes life so easy. A bit of tin or dexion sheet on the ground will give it something to sit on once its dropped and make it easier to slide out.
Thnk you might want the bus a tad higher though. Buy some ramps!
PS raining in Surrey too

Re: Syncro engine swap - DJ to AGG
Thanks Ian. The AGG is a bit heavier I think. Folding crane it is then.
Yeah ramps - borrowed tiddly car ramps but they're not strong enough for the van so they'll get used on the donor car.
Off to Machine Mart tomorrow morning methinks for some bits'n'bobs.

20v 5 pot is about 150kg so I would say 125-130kg fully dressed. Either way its 200kg on the hook.

Re: Syncro engine swap - DJ to AGG
PS you can safely do that on a sling and a couple of carabiners at full reach on a 1 ton Sealey/Draper crane.

Dont forget that the input shaft will need to be swaped over. Although this can be done at home it way be worth a trip it adian to make sure that its fitted correctly.
Good luck with it
Neil

Re: Syncro engine swap - DJ to AGG
It's a relatively inexpensive swap and will be reliable. Anyway, I'm a slow driver.syncroandy wrote:All the best with it and all that.

Thanks for that reminder. Have to see if the gearbox fits in the boot of an MX5!

Its not the 3 peak hp that makes the difference when driving Andy, you know that.

If it dose not fit in the boot then the passenger seat!
Just thinking about what a bearded chap sporting a cap driving a mx5 with the roof down, with a gear box in the passenger seat looks like
Makes me smile
