Herman's welding and paint job...after years of planning

Post by Vdub89 »

Hi all,

Herman our 1989 multivan has gone in for some TLC so I thought I would share it with everyone. I have been looking on this part of the forum for a long time longing to get him painted, with all the rot chopped out...so glad the day has finally come. He has been in for a little over a week already but I thought I would show you some of the photos of before and after (well once we get to that point)

I hope you enjoy looking at them, I am and I have been thoroughly impressed with the garage I have used so far. They have done everything I have asked and more.

The password is "herman" to look at the photos, these were taken before he went in and on the day to give an idea of his condition.

Hope you enjoy.

Thanks

Marcus

Here is what he looked like stripped out of all the glass and extra bits. As you can see the rot under the screen was pretty bad, this has been ground back and new metal added, rear bottom corners were rotten but had started to go on the horizontal panels behind. Other areas were cab step, fridge vent etc, all as planned needed work.

password is "herman"

Thanks

Ahh fair enough, absolutely the garage is Saltney Autobodies...Kevin has been brilliant at keeping me in the loop and sending photos even though I live so far away.

David when do you think you get round to yours then?

Cheers

mmmmmmmmm how long's a piece of string? I don't know really, quite happy to keep on using it regularly and keep on top of any minor issues with vactan and a dab of paint [i've just bought some Rustoleum]. Saying that the bottom of the windows will have to be repaired sometime plus an area on the o/s[panel behind the fridge] that the previous owner bodged/patched up is starting to bubble slightly so that will also need looking at. Probably better to go the full hog as you are though, because once you start poking about it can/will lead to bigger things !
Luckily there's a couple of recommended bodywork guys who are 80/90 members close to me .

Hi David,

Yes they are just round the corner from Gasure. Steve has been brilliant actually at Gasure, he has used them a fair bit over the years and suggested I gave them a go. He was right, very happy so far!

When I dropped my van off they had just finished a bay window and that looked good, plus they were on with another T 25.

Feel free to share rough prices, understand if you don't want to though.
