Mystery switch!

Does anyone happen to know what the red switch in this photo is for? (Next to the choke - lights up red). We've been trying to figure it out for 4 years now but it remains a mystery. Thanks. Rosie

Could be absolutely anything, if no joy after 4 years, you're going to have to follow the wiring and see where it leads - good luck

Do you have a three-way fridge fitted?
If so, have you ever used it on 12 volt whilst you are driving?
That switch looks like the one on my van which takes the 12 volt supply to the fridge. For it to work, of course, you have to set the controls on the fridge to 12 volt operation as well as switching that switch on.

I could of course be quite wrong, but it's worth a try.

Thanks. Never could get my fridge to work off 12 volt whilst driving. That could well be it. Will test that one out.

It's an after market switch I fitted one in my mini back in the early 90's - if it helps I can't remember what mine did either

I've got one of those in mine & I think it's for the heated rear window. I say 'think' as the rear window doesn't actually work when i switch it on but I know what the others do so its gotta be that.......hasn't it

Our friend recently bought a BMW something or other, one of the ones he was looking at was an M series that had an M button. Apparently if you pressed the M button, it did all sorts of sexy things with the engine and suspension performance. My suggestion is to Tippex the letter M next to your switch and see if improves things on your van.

If all the above suggestions are incorrect, then I would suggest that at some point in it's life, your vehicle had additional lights (floods/spots up front, or a reversing light at the back), and that was the switch that lit them up.

well thats just ridiculous!! who's ever heard of that happening?
Far more likely is its the machine guns behind the indicators, if its not working they probably just need re-loading
