Winterisation of your water system

Post by Westy.Club.Joker »

What do people with campers do to prevent freezing pipes and pumps in their `vans? Frost is just around the corner and I was wondering what is the best way to prevent damage? I have drained the water tank down, wondering what to do about any water still in the pipes and pump.

generally drain down and what is left isnt enough to cause probs, BUT unless it gets below -10 deg c i dont bother, as i use the van all year round anyway......moving water dont freeze!

and i routed my water pipes along the vans waterpipes under the floor so the engine heat tranferes, a bugger in the summer, coz you have to run a kettle full off to get cold water to drink, but the kettle boils quicker!

Have heard the antifreeze thing before, and also the vodka trick, as it doesn`t freeze normally. I`ve decided to make up a gallon of strong salt-water solution and put that in the tank, run the water pump, then drain down again. Any residual water in the pump or pipe should be frost-free I hope.
