Driving along yesterday the engine note suddenly changed, i got out and looked under to see one of the bolts on the cylinder head that holds the exhaust on to be missing.
I removed the other bolt to check on the thread type and size and now it wont line up again.
I cant remove that part of the exhaust because its rusted solid onto the rear box.
I'm getting a bit hacked off with this van now. A T4 seems very attractive at the moment. I've not had a single trip without something going wrong and that includes test runs after doing another job.
tis worth remembering that once you've done all the big jobs, they sohuldn't need too much major attention for a fair while afterwards, just a little tinkering every now and again.
Front pipe has to jump over the skid bars on a syncro and the engine sits lower, early 1.9 system is different again, probably the best in terms of clearance for a syncro from vw, but maybe limits power development.
Ian, perservere it'll be worth it, it's just they are all that age.....
no, the wiggley bit that crosses over the enigne cage at the front of the engine, this connects to a cast knuckle which in turn connects to the pipe that goes to the back box
hopefully someone will come along with a more technically correct description soon
only the front one is syncro specific, it connects to the 2 forward most cylinders and the cast knuckle, the pipe that connects to the 2 furthest back cylinders and the cast knuckle is the sameas a 2wd so much cheaper, if you can wait til tomorrow i'll get you a pic from etka, tis on my other pc which is cover by dust sheets as the other half is decorating
