1981 T25 Central London

Post by MandrakeMan »

Hi,
I'm new here, although I've had my van 10 years and just never had the chance or funds to get around to giving it the love it really needs. It has done me well, it's been to the Lakes, south of France, Isle of Wight etc, but it's now looking very tired.
I bought some coach paint for it last year with the plan to paint the van, but the weather when I've had the free time has been lousy and I'm on the street, so dust and bugs are a pain, so I have some questions:
1, I see some people mention using foam rollers, does this get you a better finish? I did the passenger door, and although it looks ok, it's not great, so i've been thinking of sanding it back it bits and giving it another coat.
2, I'm E1 London, does anyone have access to an off-road place to paint?
3, Is anyone else in my area who would be willing to give me some advice on fixing rust and patching problem areas etc, as some guidance would be very welcome, I'm ok with my hands but some knowledge would be priceless. I may be able to return the favour in recording your band if you have one?! ;-)
So, hello from me, I'm hoping some of you guys can help put the van on the road to looking good again. I'm doing the painful part today with the MOT! EEk!
Best
Chris

Hi chris, re painting I gave mine three coats of rustoleum and sanded back after each coat had dried( time consuming ) and ended up with a very good finish. Local garage didnt believe it was done with a foam roller until I showed him the pics .
I'm up north so can't help with the rest.

And not cheap foam rollers - gloss rollers.

Ok, thank you both for the prompt tip, I'll invest in some gloss rollers. :-)
What grade and type of sand paper should be used in the sand back each time?
