Engine Wobble

Post by Tobyt25 »

Ive noticed since I've had my re con engine my engine moves about quite a bit in the engine bay. 2.0l air-cooled petrol. Im not sure if its always done this or if it is not normal.

Should it be solid or is a wobble normal?

Check the engine mounts. It's entirely possible it's not tied down properly.

The engine was only fitted two weeks ago by EliteVw so the engine mounts should be brand new. It would not surprise me if they forgot to bolt the thing in.... Not very impressed with the work or service i received. Not recommended. So I'm guessing it should't wobble then.

I would rather think you should have supplied new mounts.
They supplied an engine.

He did state they fitted it. If the old mounts were no good I think its reasonable to expect they would have let you know.

i did say to replace any parts that needed doing, to get all the work done at same time. Paid an extra £600 onto of estimate for extra parts.

Perhaps the mounts are ok and its just tickover/running issues
engines will shake if it runs too slow or misfire even on new mounts.

Hello,

If you'll excuse the question...

How much wobble is wobble.. :?: :?:

Fiddly job.. but first check all the nuts on the silentbloc studs..

The worst I've seen is for the rear cast alloy cradle (carries the 4 silentbloc engine mounts) to be missing altogether....

And a couple of silentblocs just bolted between the engine and the support bar.. (Matt and Thea's van)..

Drove here in central France with it....

Photos will help... :)

Cordialement,

:ok

Its going to Volkstop in Penkridge on Wednesday. It moves 2/3 inches when revved. Thought its best to get it checked out, rather than take a chance.

Starts/runs lovely. Small oil leak but getting that sorted. Still waiting for full price breakdown.

Volkstop looking at the van now, said he thought the engine ran well and looked like a reasonable job. Suspects one of the mounts looks worn and oil leak unknown as yet.

Had the engine checked over, they said it was a good job. Running and fitted well. Oil leak came from a leaky fuel pump but there out of stock everywhere so I've got to keep an eye out for a second hand one. Big relief knowing its all ok.
