Why would you baulk at doing the job properly with genuine parts?
Don't bother with doing it then!

I use my local machine shop that does engine work for parts, plus a bit of mail order. KS, Elring and Victor Reinz should produce everything you need. They all have good Tecdoc websites.

Re: 1y engine rebuild bits?
Same with my one - they will supply the oversize pistons/rings/shells or whatever but the OP hasn't mentioned machining so presumed just needed standard.( even though vw should be able to supply the oversize also)

Re: 1y engine rebuild bits?
the thing is everytime ive asked for rings or ends they tend to say "ill ring you back" and never do. They really struggle with out going off the reg of the original engine.....just reading off bleeding computer screens i guess!! haha

Re: 1y engine rebuild bits?
Give them the engine no. and year and make of the vehicle it came from, that should suffice. I don't see why you are so against using vw though.
It begs the question though - why buy such a tired engine in the first place?
Have you actually measured the wear that has led you to say that you are going to replace them or are you replacing them with new standard sizes willy nilly without going oversize? (not a particularly good idea if you haven't checked the top of the cylinder as the new top rings can break if you hit the ridge that forms on worn cylinders)

Re: 1y engine rebuild bits?
all good info there chaps.. but here's my tuppeneth..
Are you going to re-con the pump/injectors as well? I've set timing up on a few 1Y/AAZ/JX diesels and if the engine has done anywhere near 100K then I would be timing by the book then adjusting by ear and driving the thing. if you are going to the trouble of doing the big ends and rings then please don't put an old tired pump and injectors on it.. it's just not right!
