Crank End Float

Post by T25Convert »

Hi,

Just bought a second hand engine to replace my rather tired 1.9DG - plan is to leave the tired one in the van for the moment, whilst doing whatever needs doing to the 'new' one...

Staretd stripping off all the ancillaries, and found that everything appeared to be in good order, with evidence that the jacket seals have been done recently, oil seems clean, plugs light brown not black and oily, the remnants of water smelled of antifreeze etc etc.

However, slight horror when coming to removingthe flex plate (its out of an auto) as I can feel the end float, so well in excess of the limits i would guess.

I assume that its a strip down and rebuild the bottom end, or can I just reshim when fitting the flywheel.

I sure I can't as that seems too easy, but though it was worth asking before I start delving in and snapping head studs!!

Cheers,

Alex

I think you may find that it is just a case of sorting it when you fit a flywheel
From what I remember when we last had a auto on the floor it was end floaty before flywheel fitment

Now that is the best news I've had in a while!

In which case I will try shimming it out and see how it goes - worst case I'll have wasted a day fitting it to the van, best case I'll have save myself a world of pain!

Cheers for the quick response,

Alex
