A little heads up on your insurance agreed valuation.

Post by jed the spread »

Just had a little bit of hassle with renewing my agreed valuation insurance policy. Apparently the under writers now look on this forum to see what your van has been up to  Paul at Glynwoods came up trumps and gave the usual top service to help me out.

They won't give you agreed valuation if your vehicle ever goes off road or If the words Mud appear on the tyres

Luckily mine doesn't and I have had to send a confirmation letter to say I will only drive it on public highway. Luckily when they said they would insure my West Syncro (agreed value £15,500) 4x4 Campervan they haven't stopped me from camping and cooking in it.

I renewed mine through Paul yesterday. Very good, no hassle service. But didn't mention the mud thing to me. How do we stand with green laning? These are muddy public highways.

With normal car insurance they state you are not covered for track use, racing etc. I just presumed this would be the same with 4x4's using pay and play sites.

Like I said I am only going to drive on public highways

I renewed my policy back in November or something but the underwriters (not Paul or Glynwoods) wouldnt except my photos because they were not on photographic paper. My old policy had run out the day before and apparently they dont give the two weeks grace anymore so they wanted all new photos. I then sent them the same six but then they said they were to small  but Paul had a word with them and sorted it all out and told me what the under writers were doing and looking at. Apparently they have noticed that Dokas feature more off road and dont like the way they have a wheel in the air and are afraid of them tipping up, but appreciate and understand you wouldnt drive a camper like that because all your stuff would fly around after Paul had a word with them. Anyway he called back a couple of hours ago to say they have accepted the £15,500 as long as I send the letter and my proof of membership from on here.

Paul told me he was authorised to give an agreed value of up to £15k without consulting the underwriters of my policy. Your policy is a lot stricter. Last year I just emailed the pics.

Mine is quite expensive at £391, but that's agreed at £15k, with commuting, up to 10k miles. This is for Gemma and I.

I pay £360 a year and I am happy to pay it because of the good service I get from Paul, I switched from Adrian Flux a couple of years ago because of things I had read on B-Y from people who tried to claim with them.

As far as I am aware when you get your van stolen you get The Glass Guide value and that will be about £500 if your lucky. If someone hits you and the cost to repair it is not economical (over The Glass Guide price) it will be written off. If your over in Europe in your van and it needs towing back from lets say the south of France and its obviously going to cost more than £500 to tow it back and your break down cover is via your insurance company what do you think might happen?

For an extra £150 if my van gets stolen I get £15,500 and all the other benefits above.

I want to say your mental but dont want to come across rude

Yes, I agree the policies aren't cheap but having agreed value and commuting does add a fair wack. Also when you speak to the fella on other end of the phone he knows what he is talking about. For example Paul didn't ask if it had been lowered, like other companies did!

Also my car insurance went up (privilege ins) because a Veola truck crashed into my wife. Even though they accepted responsibility 100% and I have protected no claims, I still had to pay £70 extra on my premium. When I rang Paul back to say I had forgot to mention it, how much extra do I have to pay? He said there was no charge.
That's the difference between speaking to someone with common sense and speaking to a pleb who is only allowed to say what is on the screen in front of them.

I hope that should I ever need to make a claim that the service and knowledge continues to be as good.

Also I was assured I could increase my agreed value if I was to have my description verified by a specialist.

So for me, £390 well spent. :D

Hmmm...might get on it soon...it is possible to argue the value and present evidence to show what similar vans cost/sell for.

Also, in a non fault accident the insurance don't get to say if the vans a write off....they may try but it's not their call to make, it's still been damaged and your within your right to claim off the other party's insurance to have it put right...or replaced, either way that's not on my insurance but the other parties..

..PM on the way..

That didn't work for my parents Mercedes when my Dad was hit head on. To replace their car, in the spec they had would have been near £12k, the insurance co gave them £8k. My Dad asked them to replace the car like for like rather they accept the £8k, they declined.
