Hi All
The engine judders for a while after stopping -
now this could either be becuse it just loves me driving sooooo much
that it wants to keep on going OR
it could be something technical.....
Any ideas?

If my memory serves me a little better than usual, all the Aircooled Vdubs suffered from a tendency to run on when the ignition was switched off.
An idle cut off valve ( known by other names just to confuse of course) is generally fitted to chop the fuel supply at the carburettor to prevent the run on, and closes when ignition is killed by the turn of the key.
Just one thing to check, (although a malfunction would normally lead to a lack of a good idle at start up.)

You mean it keeps running a a small time after the ignition is off?
Its called 'deiseling' I believe. My last bug used to do it occasionally, especially after giving it some stick.
Basically its a build -up of carbon in the cyylinder head that is hot a glowing............kinda like a glow plug from a deisel I imaging. I causes remaining fuel to carry on burning even without a spark from the sparkplug.
Could be your running too rich or just years of build up. I never bothered about it but believe you can use such a sredex to help clear it. Personally I wouldn't put that stuff in my engine, my fathers engine never ran the same again after using it, prolly because it broke down the carbon 'seals' that had built up over the years and helped counter the effects of a worn engine.

That problem now seems to have sorted itself
(van hadn't been used much before)
The problem I have now is that it makes a
tapping sound (like metal hitting metal) until it's
warmed up when it then stops.....
Clues anyone? Is it safe to drive like that?
Ideally I want to book the van in to a garage than can just sort it all out
for me... does anyone know of a VW specialist in Spalding/Bourne/Deeping/Perterborough way?
