1y / AEF - cam belt/ water pump/tensioner compatibility
Hi
I am transplanting a 1.9 diesel AEF engine into my 1.6CS camper.
Have been offered a new cam belt/tensioner and water pump bought for a 1Y by Neil.
Will the belt/tensioner/water pump fit ?
Thanks....
Matt

The water pump defiantly does as I fitted the one from my cs into the 1y block as it was only a few months old.
1y Tin top rust collector.

1Y/CS water pumps are interchangeable, but WILL NOT FIT the AEF, unless you do some extreme bodging. The AEF pump/belt is better anyway.
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Re: 1y / AEF - cam belt/ water pump/tensioner compatibility
Thanks Coiln
I am guessing the tensioner and cam belt from 1Y is different to the Skoda 1.9 AEF too ??
Have been kindly offered cheap a belt/ tensionerand w pump surplus to requirements for a 1Y from a local member from his 1y conversion - looks like I will need to get the ones specifically for an AEF which fortunately are in stock at a local parts shop.
We are camping in the new forest next weekend so am being cautious and not installing the new engine till we return - dont want the pressure of a short deadline to meet
Thanks again Colin

Re: 1y / AEF - cam belt/ water pump/tensioner compatibility
Speaking from personal experience I have a 1.9 AEF diesel in my t25 .
The engine came from a 1997 caddy and was married up to my 1.6 diesel pump.
So when I had the cam belt changed my garage were stumped.
I had to research it myself to get one to fit.
As far as the tensioner is concerned the 1.6 and 1.9 is the same euro parts (328440051)
The timing belt has to be for a 1.9 as it is longer euro parts (325440385)
Also had replace the water pump the other day went straight on bought from E-bay, GFS Part item no 300638174772.
Hope this helps Paul.

Why would you want to take any kind of chance on having the right cam belt and tensioner?matt brighton wrote:

Hi Colin - I wouldnt take a chance on such a vital part,
Actually its quite a relief having such a "modern" engine -alot of my previous motors have all been a been a bit leftfield and consequently not on the computers or data or motor factors.
A specalist skoda web shop (jorily) supplies oem stuff for the aef - you probably know that) so its reassuring to buy with confidence.
As always - appreciate all your advice
Regards and have a good weekend
