thanks ronsrecord, will give it a read.
Our proposed route is below.... still awaiting my france passion stuff so not sure where any good ones are yet, so if you know of any on route, or have any other tips of places to see, where to stop etc, id love to hear them...
Sat - Fri to do:-
we get the ferry to dunkirk, then were thinking of stopping at a place called Blangy-sur-Bresle, as its about 2 hrs from dunkirk, so we should get there around teatime....
then on to Tours (4hrs)
then pyla-sur-mer to visit europes largest sand dune (4hrs 26)
lourdes (3hrs 25)
Mollerussa in spain (4 hrs)
coming back, poss similar route, Weve got sun - sun to do :-
from mollerussa to Andorra (2hrs 37)
Bordeaux (4hrs35)
Tours region (3hrs 45)
somewhere on route to dunkirk,
then dunkirk for at 12pm sail on the sunday......
Not driven on the continent before, and not to sure about the toll thing. i know it can probably add up a bit but i think we'll just see how we go in terms of driving with kids and how we get on with the roads etc etc.
if any of you have any must see's along the way, or places to stop etc etc, please let me know.
cheers,
kathy x

I worked out from that link that using tolls from Calais to South of France would cost around 100 euro one way.

Hey Kathyshack,
Sorry I was so pathetic at responding to your initial emails. I have just had a look at your route, tho i forgot to add Lourdes in! We have done a similar route a couple of times. Mailnly tho we go through Clermont Ferrand then towards Carcassone and across the border into Spain. The camp site we have used a lot is Camping Aquarius at San Pere Pescador, there are a few near there and long beaches. It is also quite close to Figueres where there is a Salvador Dali museum, I think there is also one at Cadaques which some friends have been to and said is very pretty. The cathedral at Tours is also impressive. Looking at the route planner map (minus Lourdes) it looks as though you go near La Rochelle .... we have stayed last year at a camp site in Île de Ré that is a pretty place also. Ambois is also lovely, we once stayed at a night at a chateaux there. There is a guy on Just Kampers called Dandaz or Lost-en -France on The Late Bay who lives in Saintes, he may know more places.
Bon voyage y buen viaje

Re: road trip to Spain next april/may- advice reqd pls
Thanks guys!
We've decided now to get the ferry back from Bilbao to Portsmouth, so we have less driving to do and also means we can explore northern spain for the week after the wedding. Still driving down from dunkirk to mollerussa in spain, so this way, we get to have almost a week in france, and then a week in spain. Very excited about it all...... If anyone has any tips on where to stay and what to see in northern spain, please let us know,
thanks, kathy xxx

What's the road to the Aragnouet tunnel in the pyrenees like.......gradient wise?
Just thinking ahead for when the poor van has to climb up there

The poor van made it to 6000ft. Wasn't as bad as I expected. I would never ever manage the Hardknott pass but the continentals have more sense when creating their roads. Rather than straight up they use long switchbacksCruz wrote:What's the road to the Aragnouet tunnel in the pyrenees like.......gradient wise?
