Been on this a couple of evenings but I think the pics are essential for anyone following this. I can just imagine the Haynes version - lol.

Also added in info from Silverbullet regarding his guide blocks and fork ends. Will try to get all the relevant links in place when its all done. I think this will have to be a Part 1 and Part 2 article - its very comprehensive and the best ever written so far on gear shift wear. Pt 1 finished more or less:

Good work there,
the likes of haynes are a good start but we can do better for ourselves in the real world.

Ok, will do that one. Fairly mad weekend though doing a variety of completely unrelated jobs for a myriad of organisations. Become something of a community Covkid of late. Of all things, I have to help move a safe on Tuesday. There are two. The bigger one will not be going in my van though. Apprently it gave four big blokes hernias the last time it was moved

Had to stop editing tonight - doing my eyes in trying to get the green cast out of some of the photos and moving some to inset mode to take up less space on page. What with that and compressing them afterwards, its quite time consuming. Think I'm three-quarters of the way there though - HOORAY!!! :D

Now on Part 2: https://club8090.co.uk/wiki?ti ... hanism_Pt2" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Yep, it was the shots underneath. If you look at WIKI (Part 2) and then these pages, you'll see where I removed the green cast. It was just a hue shift really. One or two I cropped tighter for clarity and a couple I increased the sharpness on the focal point. Look fine now anyway.

Great job, I'm sure we all appreciate your efforts (and MM's). :ok
The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it!

I just been reading through your guide on renovating the gear linkage(Very Nice!!) I've found the mystery plastic cap on german ebay! The one on the bottom of the gear lever you put a finger of a blue rubber glove.

Just ordering some parts to do mine, but waiting out to check the condition of the rear linkages before finally ordering.

Great find! If you order any get a couple of spares with your order and I will have them off you, save on us both getting them posted from Germany :ok

Hi all,
Just want to say a big thank you for this post. I've been overhauling the linkage on my own 5 speeder and have read and re-read all this info several times.
I don't want to muscle in, but I too need the "mystery" plastic cap from the end of the lever. If you are intending to order a few I'd be more than happy to take one.

On a more general note my van is a 1990 Holdsworth Villa ( "Celebrity" no less! ) that I bought in March this year. I've worked through a pretty extensive to do list and have slowly but surely come to appreciate the value of this forum and the Wiki pages. I only found the club 3 or 4 months ago as I tend to just get on with things myself but have come to really appreciate the info available here. So, thanks everyone. I hope to be able to add my own contributions as and when.
Thanks.

No probs Cruachan, all here to help each other, so when you next do a job photo it and you too might get a wiki entry and help someone else, what goes round comes around and all that.

Not heard anything on the plastic caps so might see if I can find some myself and bulk buy some, then we can all access them - will let you know.

Just like to say thanks for that Wiki write up, it enabled me to complete the front half clean up and replace the alloy guides and fork ends.

I will next be doing the shafts and the selector end when time permits....

Even though the gear lever snapped just after the clean up, after it had been welded up, the ease with which it goes into first and then second is remarkable compared to when I first got her. Reverse is now a definate 'across and down' to engage.

Brilliant.
