Re: JX 1,6 TD Twin Belt Setup
Water pump belt tension is adjusted by adding/removing shims from the middle of the pulley. To increase tension, undo the three bolts holding the pulley on, take off the outer, pop a shim out and re-assemble. Run the engine briefly to let the belt settle in the pulley and re-tighten the bolts.

Re: JX 1,6 TD Twin Belt Setup
Hi there, looking for this manual too - got belts done, then the aux one snapped a week after. Got RAC out to fix, working fine, but a few days later started to sound a bit squeaky and I think its coming from the aux belt (I've got the one belt for alt + water pump). If the link to the manual could be posted here maybe that could help others down the line rather than bothering you with a PM, none the less I would appreciate taking a look at the manual. Cheers

Re: JX 1,6 TD Twin Belt Setup
Hello! My VW Westfalia California Vanagon 1990 with power steering and 1.6 JX has a different setup of belts.
There's a double pulley wheel at the bottom of the engine running two belts.
Number one: inner belt running up "vertically" connecting the wheel with the water pump and the alternator
Number two: outer belt running sidewise "horizontally" connecting the wheel with the power steering pump.
As the inner one broke on the way, and I had to decide quickly, I cut off the outer one too (yeah, I know I lost power steering but was able to continue driving within minutes
).
I had no idea how to loosen tension on the outer one in order to remove it.
Could anyone please share some information how it should be done correctly, maybe provide some videos, pictures or other kind of manual for my setup?
Thank you in advance!

Re: JX 1,6 TD Twin Belt Setup
Tensioning for the main auxiliary belt is done with the alternator mounting - it's very similar to the power steering pump mounting in this post in that you need to loosen both the pivot bolt and position setting bolt to adjust the tension.
