Second day. Managed to get front done today and left myself a couple of hours first thing tomorrow to prep remaining sides (mostly to get a good key for paint) and paint the rest.
ChickenKoop came round today in his new Westy to took a look at how I was doing. We're both in agreement that if you can flat down after first coat, this is a lot easier than spraying and very close to a spray finish if you do it right. I'd definately recommend it to anyone who doesn't want the mess of spraying. This paint will go over anything.
Also obtainable from £1 shops are those foam brushes - around 30 odd in a bag I think. Ideal for reaching the bits you can't get at with the roller.
What I've noticed (and probably why this paint is different to others) is that even watered down with white spirits, its still a dense paint - it doesn't go on transparent like other paints would so you get good coverage. Its not been hot today as you know but the paint seems to be bug-resistent after 15 mins (ie they don't stick) - not that there are any bugs about at the moment.
By my reckoning I should be able to finish sides tomorrow then I'll wait two days, wet-sand and go over it with another coat with more thinners than normal (say 50/50) it to get that final gloss. Wait a week then 1200 wet sand and polish. No real smell from this paint either - not even as bad as the fumes you get from gloss.
I don't wash anything out - I just dump each roller and tray and start with a fresh roller and tray each time - seems easiest way to do it. Hope to get pics up shortly!

Really looking forward to seeing your results. I read through 100's of pages of posts over on the moparts forum and have seen the great results that people are getting. I am seriously considering doing this. The only trouble is I don't have a garage, and I am not sure I am willing to risk doing it out in the street!
cheers,

This time of year its fine to do outside. Bit cold for flying insects and its fairly mess-free operation. Biggest mess I found was in the prep-work rather than the actual painting. I borrowed my elderly parents garden while they're away on holiday for two weeks. Taken me three days.
To be honest, you could scuff the surface with 800 grade paper and go straight over that. Thin the paint down like very runny custard and its perfect. It goes on and within three or four minutes starts to level out and go glossy.
Have finished for now anyway. Managed to get round everywhere except the roof which I'll be painting white at some other time. I shall be leaving first two layers for 30 days to harden off then I'll wet-sand and give a final coat and buff. All in all I'd say its almost as good as a spray job and if you can commit time to rubbing flat and buffing - you won't be able to tell the difference. No stink to annoy the neighbours with and total outlay - £45?

As I say, I shall flat down in a month and give it a final gloss but you must admit - its not bad as it is. Nice blue too.

It also continues in this specific thread:

It will be added to the Wiki shortly but for now you'll need to follow new thread to see whats going on, who is doing it etc.
Hope that helps
