Paint Your Wagon - with a roller!

Having scoured the pound shops for foam brushes without success, I found these on ebay

thought it might be of use.

I got mine from the bay of fleas. I'm not that impressed with foam brushes tbh as they still leave lines

They do if you use them like an ordinary brush. Dab them and they're pretty much like the roller.

Quick update on my rustoleum roller paint job:

Been busy today (and the weekend before last) prepping the roof for painting. Finished the prep this morning, so this afternoon managed to get the first coat on of black.

Really happy with the results for the first coat, and would definately recommend the rustoleum roller method of painting

So thanks to everyone on here for the thread & wiki article and advice!

Great....it rained lastnight, so I have little marks on the paint where the raindrops were. I guess this doesn't matter too much though as it will have to be rubbed down anyway right?

Your right... it won't matter as your rubbing down again for the next coat. It's the last coat you don't want it to rain on, but even then with 1200+ paper you should be able to 'clean' the marks during the final flattening. Looks good too!

Just remember (and I've said this many times), don't try flatting back too soon. A safe bet is a month ideally.

Hasn't been much activity here lately. I suppose people are waiting for better weather.
I have my 5 litres of Rustoleum ready to go, mixed to LH5G Mediumblau by Avenue coatings.

you're not alone, i am going to get started on a few panels soon that are to be welded to the van. anyone found a decent percentage for thinners and paint for this temperature/climate? one thing i was going to ask, has anyone tried that jml paintmate pro roller on a van? seems to disperse the paint nice and evenly on walls.

I used one part white spirit, 4 parts rustoleum seemed to be a good mix for this weather (2-3 weeks ago)

Yea ermm - Rattybird painted hers a real deep purple colour just before selling it - she was having too many issues with the 'donkey' and also needed the cash for moving house

anyone else got any opinion on the jml roller that you put the paint inside the roller? i might give it a go.

made a start, i mixed four plastic cups of paint to 3/4 cup of thinners. at this time of year, i wouldn't go any more than that, or the paint will run down your panels. went on like a dream, loving this rustoleum! something very therapeutic about roller painting. it's not pitch perfect, a couple of line marks, i put on a little more paint than i would have done so i can polish those out, but very satisfied at the first attempt! had to go over a few places where paint was too thin and the black primer showed through, but you can definitely cover and level out a panel in one go!

the wiki advice was spot on, especially regarding how to use the roller.

for the edges, i used a good quality paintbrush and the strokes level up if the paint is mixed well, so make sure you get the mix right. i mixed up the thinner and the paint very thoroughly until no streaks and very thin watery custard. give it a go! anyone can do this and it's great fun!
