Not necessarily Mark. It could have been that the new VC had slightly less silicone in it making it a 'looser' VC and the conditions you were running the old VC in were not harsh enough to get the new one exibiting the same issues as the old VC. Just a thought but you are right, it is a head scratcher. Did you ever discuss this in open forum around a campfire with drink in hand?

I have to say unfortunately that I think its unlikely VC behaviour is so tightly bound to overall differential condition.

Of course the best way to ever document subjective variations, would be to have them objectively tested, e.g. a time~temp plotted at a constant rpm, as Dorfbrunnen do and SDP used to. We are probably in danger of getting into conspiracy theory territory otherwise
