Re: Suggestions for an electric or gas heater please
There always is Kev......all systems have their Pros and cons....I was just pointing out the added benefits of using the fuel source you already have fitted.
However...no system is perfect.

California Dreamin wrote:It's probably also worth pointing out that having a heating system running off an existing fuel source, namely petrol or diesel, means considerably cheaper running costs (propane/butane bottles work out very expensive for the amount of gas they contain). Another benefit is more from not having a seperate gas bottle.
The third benefit is the potential to run the heating for longer (systems running off a seperate bottle will be restricted to it's capacity) the chances of 'running out' of gas are much higher than running out of diesel or petrol (because your fuel tank capacity is vast compared to a gas bottle), leaving you without heating altogether.
Ask the syncro guys who often camp 'off the grid' for long periods....filling up your fuel tank is much easier than locating a 'gas supplier' selling your particular bottle type.
However...the major benefit of a gas/Propex system does appear to be the price...

sorry but unless you are lugging several huge batterys about anymore than a couple of gallons of heater fuel is pointless, as the battery power wont last further than that.
also paying road fuel duty is expensive for heating.

Re: Suggestions for an electric or gas heater please
I have a LPG ''leisure'' tank fitted (similar to the ones fitted to Westfailures) which is perfectly adequate to feed the fridge, the cooker and the propex heater. This is automatically topped up every time I refuel the main LPG tank and so far, the LPG leisure tank has never run out of gas. I think it holds about 20 litres, but I could be mistaken.
The heater electrics run off the leisure battery which is also of an adequate capacity. I am confident that I have the best possible system to suit my needs. My only niggle at the moment is that I have recently purchased a gas barbecue / bacon butty factory for which I need a Gaz bottle. I plan on persuading Steve at Gasure to fit an external gas tap to feed the bbq from the leisure tank at some point soon. I am sure he will advise me on the subject.
My arrangements may not suit everybody, but with LPG at 64p per litre locally to me, I am not bothered about claiming any tax back, or fitting diseasel tanks, or anything else.

I should have a new unused 12v petrol Webasto Airtop HL32 system up for grabs in two or three weeks - 3.2Kw, it will be considerably under the £700 of the AT2000 I linked to.

Heaters? I won't use them. The human body generates it's own heat/ In my day we just rubbed two boy scouts together.

Propex
I've fitted a cheap multi-programme 12v timer to it so this winter I can set it to come on 1/2 to 1 hour before I set off to work every day (but not mondays or weekends) so it will be nice and toasty rather than -7
If that makes me a puff then so be it

Re: Suggestions for an electric or gas heater please
what do you do when the timer has said off.. and then the propex needs to cycle again to cool

Re: Suggestions for an electric or gas heater please
It still does it's cooling cycle when the timer turns it off.
Basically it's the same as the timer propex sell but £65 cheaper
It just over-rides the on/off rocker switch on the control panel that came with the propex, the cooling cycle runs just the same
