OC203. It's 102mm high, against 100mm for the Mann version, so would be worse.
Speed shop recommend a smaller filter (for a Polo) - Mann W712/52. It's only 92mm high, but the pressure relief valve spec is different, hence the BW alternative.

It is the threaded union the cooler and filter sits on that is the problem. I may not have seated it fully during engine rebuild. I spent best part of the afternoon looking (unsuccessfully) for another nut to lock up against the retaining nut hoping to wind it in further. Then I contemplated cutting about 3mm off the end of the union thread with a cutting disc.
Silly idea!

My mistake on the OC203, pulling numbers from memory!

The thread is 3/4" x 16 UNF and the oil tube is secured with threadlock, probably worth buying a half decent HSS tap to clean the case threads out and ensure than the tube is wound all the way in.
The 1.9 have around 15mm of thread protruding at the most?

My take on the filter bypass pressure is that it only applies when there is a situation in which bypass is necessary i.e. when the oil is really thick and viscous in sub-zero conditions OR the filter is so choked with carbonized oil that it cannot pass any treacle.
Modern oils are a lot better than those that the WBX was developed to use, so if you are using 10w40 in a rebuild and change the oil annually, conditions in the UK mean that the bypass pressure is pretty much irrelevant.

I remember running a Polo filter on a 2.1 with a Speedshop exhaust a few years ago. Just looked it up and it was part no. 030 115 561
