JX 1,6 TD Twin Belt Setup

This forum really is of much help for pure lost beginners like me.
I just "inherited" the family 1989 T3 Westy 1.6TD JX Transporter and would love to browse through the manual to get a restoration plan.

Twin belt is slack and I would love to replace it. The shims advice seems top( thank you muttleypup).

Good afternoon all, Fish here from Shropshire.
I have had my 1986 1.6td with the jx engine for many years, I have had it maintained and replaced the majority of parts, clutch, turbo, fuel tank, windscreen, rear wishbones, renovated the body and all of the other general day to day service items.
I must admit that the old bus has been in storage for a couple of years, but everything I pop to see him (every 4 weeks or so) he starts on the button 1st time every time, quite impressive for an old boy !
Anyways, the last few times the old squeal from the V belts (or could be the water pump?) is getting louder and I need to examine it. My old mechanic has since retired (how selfish!!) and I will have to do the work myself, in a round about way, is there any chance that I could have a copy of the hallowed Bentley manual so as I can get my hands oily and keep the old boy on the road for , hopefully, years to come....

I've also PM'ed you download links for the JX engine manuals - Bentley was compiled for the US market and so it doesn't have any information on the 1.6TD engine as it wasn't sold there.

Seems this post has become the "ask clift_d for the JX manual" post! Not being one to buck tradition and all, might I also get a copy of the JX manual? I've got a 1990 Multivan Syncro with a JX motor that a PO has done a Westy conversion on. Drives me crazy that the two commonly available English language owner/DIY mechanic guides have very limited info on the JX setup. I'm trying to figure out how to get a copy of the old standalone ElsaWin running on an old laptop or something, (not asking for that here) but in the meantime a copy of the actual VAG JX manual would be fantastic! 

[Just realized I have a copy of "Workshop_Manual_00253804220-4_cylinder_diesel_engine__mechanics_CS_JX_KY" that I got when I got a 24 or 48 hour ErWin subscription and DL'ed all the manuals they had there, is that the one you've got or is it a more extensive JX focused manual?]

That’s the one for the engine - there’s also an injection system manual which I can give you a link for, or which you can find on the Syncrosport website.

The Russek manual is the only published manual that I’m aware of which was available for the JX engine, and this has been reprinted more recently by JustKampers.

Ok so that’s the one I’ve got, the injection pump one too and a few others from ErWin. Always on the lookout for new sources and deeper looks into this van!

No, the download is the VW tech manual from Elsa/ElsaWin. You can actually get to all of them from https://www.superetka.com (as well as the full ETKA parts lists)

it’s a bit funny though, the site is legit but it’s a Russian website with a mixture of English, German, and Russian in certain spots. Our vans are under “typ2” or “typ2 syncro” or “campmobil” for just the Westfalia parts if you’ve got a Westy.

In the SuperElsa part it looks like they don’t have anything before 2000 but there’s a tickbox next to a little blurb in Russian on the manual vehicle details entry form that translates to something cryptic like “check this box if you want (something about necromancy or necrotic options) included”. Referring to older, classic vehicles from pre-2000.

Also, for my syncro, my sticker says I’ve got a AVS gearbox, but the only choices were the 3H, ABH, AND, AVF, AVJ, and the AVU. I think I ended up choosing the AVF the first time, but I’d probably choose the AVJ next time because I’ve got a 4.43 final drive.

I spent about 3 days “printing to PDF” all of the parts exploded diagrams from ETKA there and an hour or so looking through the tech manuals and printing off the ones I wanted from ELSA. Sadly the interactive repair instructions don’t work on their Elsa but the PDF manuals are still worth printing off for sure. They’re way more complete than the ones I saved after paying VW for a 48 hour subscription to erWin a couple years ago.
