2.1 DJ question

Post by Smiffo »

Morning all.

Long story short, I’m switching my old 1.9DG engine out for a 2.1 Dj, but running on the Pierburg I already have.
The time is fast approaching for its delivery after the build.

The questions as follows:

1. trying to wrap my head around whether I need to keep existing 1.9 DG dizzy, or swap for DJ variant. ( I have both already. )
2. Will be ordering an oil cooler, but can’t picture whether there are bleed rail implications in that, or just thermostat housing consideration.

Any insight appreciated.

regards

As I understand keep the DJ one.. I should have on mine but sold it when I did the rebuild. I've been using the DG ever since and its been fine, although I suppose it has a difference advance curve to it, whether its optimal for the DJ no idea, someone with more brains can perhaps enlighten you.  :ok

Cheers both.

Any thoughts on oil cooler considerations?
I can start digging out documentation anyway, just curious on your thoughts.

DJ dissy has spark advance and retard, you don't have provision for the latter with the carb manifold so use the DG dissy.
Oil interwarmer is doable, use the 2.1 type coolant pump which has a coolant connection and tee the other end in near the thermostat housing using the 2.1 rigid pipe.
Should do the job.

Awesome, SB.

I did my water pump last year. The Brickie one came with the port ( albeit sealed off atm ) for the oil cooler.

Top man.

The thermostat housing for DJ has an extra spigot for the oil cooler small pipe and rigid metal pipe.
DG dissy on my DJ2.1 with carb/LPG. Runs better on LPG but that may well be an issue with my carb rebuilding (lack of) skills.
On another note the NH automatic transaxle set up with the 2.1 (should be NJ code) is okay but changes gear far too early for my liking. So l use 2nd gear manually in the autobox, otherwise it will go to D at around 35mph and does impact the ecomony. My last auto DJ with Digijet could hit 24mpg on a long motorway run. This one with carb rarely goes above 18mpg.
I would have the Digijet setup any day.
