Rear Air intake Covers

Post by Lillythefrenchie2026 »

As I mentioned in my first post, we now have our lovely family T25 sitting on the drive. I’ve noticed the rear air intakes could potentially be a major point for water ingress, especially with the amount of rain we’ve had over the past few days, and I was wondering if you can buy covers for them — either clip-on or magnetic ones — to use when the van isn’t in use.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated, as I want to protect it from rust as much as possible.

Thanks!

They are designed to let water in and it comes out in the engine bay and drips onto the floor - you can drill a hole in the metal floor at the bottom but it isn't really an issue compared with salt on the roads, and the hole will become the weak spot where the rust will start

But, one method is to cover the vents is to use magnetic flexible sign material, though from my experience the magnetism does degrade over time and strong winds will blow them off, depends how good they are, you pays your money......

Hi Aidan,

I’ve found a 1mtr square magnet sheet on Amazon which claims to have a very strong magnetism, I will go out with a cardboard and make a ruff template before cutting it up, I think every little help to prevent any moisture build up when it’s parked on the drive, I heard people say not to use complete van covers as they make it sweat.

Thanks for the advice.

Later South African build T3s have a hole in the middle of the x-pressing panel at the bottom of the vent duct. They recognised it as a problem and fixed it.
