Problems… is it the gearbox or clutch?

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

just to update this...

gearbox is back on (not sure how I managed it)... I have a mild panic though.. I have reconnected the clutch slave, those bolts and nuts are such a ballache... but the clutch pedal is pretty soft... havent bled it yet due to the great british weather so hopefully thats the reason... fingers crossed... I think it would break my heart having to take it out again...

it might be worth stripping it for the 4th gear set, but tbh the 0.78s are rarely in good condition because when in the TD bus it got lugged in 4th a lot so dog teeth tend to be worn to the point where gear retention becomes problematic

Went for a test drive today...

We are mobile.. it works and happy.. now to try and sort all the other stuff with the van..

Cab sounds quieter.. strangely..
4th gear in the old box would do 55 at 3000 rpm, now its 50 at 3000 but all good..
Thanks to @stesaw for the box..

Footnote.. reverse lights dont work now. Have bridged contacts, lights come on. will buy a new switch to sort it..

Thanks for everyones help..

so what code box have you fitted ? Sounds like maybe a naturally aspirated diesel box if it is slower than the old one

yep n/a diesel box, ABF = 5.83 final drive, 0.85 fourth gear, in top final gear is 4.9555

old box ABH = 5.43 final drive and 0.78 fourth gear, 4.2354 final gear

your new box is 17% slower or 17% more revs for same speed

ideally you want a petrol box ABD 4.86x0.85, 4.131 final gear, 2.5% quicker than the ABH, worth keeping an eye out for one, or a DU, or a DT or an ABB, last 2 are quicker by another 5% as they have 4.57 final drive
