Clutch woes

Post by ding33 »

Changed my clutch slave cylinder this week - a painful job but got it done. All was well initially - clutch worked fine - but after a couple of hours the clutch stopped disengaging. Thought it might need bleeding again so tried that - but didn’t help. Slave cylinder seems to be moving the arm ok and pedal feels fine. Any thoughts on what the problem could be?

Further to this - tried starting the van in gear today to see what happened - put in reverse and was able to start with clutch pedal depressed and no lurch backwards - could then release clutch and reverse as normal. But if start in neutral can’t select any gears with engine running and clutch depressed. Can select all gears just fine with engine off. Very odd!

I suggest you haven’t got all the air out, or haven’t done the bleed screw up

I thought that too - re bled again today - but the slave cylinder is moving the actuation arm and the pedal feels good. Just feels like not moving it far enough as clutch not disengaging fully. The slave cylinder I fitted was from Just Kampers - is it possible that this would have a shorter movement than the original one?

There's info on here somewhere (from Aidan probably) about how far the throw should be on the clutch slave- worth getting that info if you can find it
