The speed tape is aerospace grade, its used to seal down instrumentation cabling inside of the engine undercowels and good for surprisingly high temps.
I used clear Sikaflex to bond the lenses back on, touch wood zero issues after a year.
Cheers

Ha Ha! Thanks that looks so much fun!
Dont know why I never thought of it myself..
and I was just getting used to the idea of single lights,
or putting the rusty ones back in, and out again next years MOT!
I dont feel like I need the extra mainbeam anyway.
Or just cover them with spotlight covers, like old rally cars.
And just leave them not working. For now..
What I need them for if possible is better dips.
Might investigate totally different lighting ideas.

Re: Source of inner "SA" style headlights/spots
Well procrastinator or what, finally got round to it.
they needed a sanding and silver tape, easy enough.
Had ordered the tape how many years ago..
Anyhow a little tip for anyone following these instructions,
when I was taping I left the rim bare,
where I was going to glue the glass back to the metal,
and I used clear CT1 just because the tube was open,
Now it does look a little bit naff where the metal shows through the glue,
..through the glass, it would have been better to have silvered the lot.
So if you are sanding and silvering, and the old sealant has come off,
and if you are using clear new sealant, silver tape right to the edge.
Otherwise, hey its an hours work, dont be shy of it like me,
and it looks great and should last,
I'll feedback on the CT1 but its usually good all rounder.
