aaz front pulley problems

Post by morganite »

Hi all you knowledgable people my name is Pete and this is my first post. Doing a JX to AAZ conversion and i’m worried about the front pulley coming loose . Where can i buy a new stretch bolt ? tried brickwerks but no joy, also can anyone suggest a suitable alternator with a clutch,to ease the pressure on the serpentine belt that causes the pulley bolts to break or come loose, Many thanks Pete

The bolt is common on most 4cyl vw engines.
You can buy it separately, but timing belt kits usually have it.

AFAIK by factory the self tightening AAZ alternators did not have clutch pulley as the belt was shorter, but I think you can fit a pulley from a Tdi alternator.

Think brickwerks are showing 6 in stock

To find them on brickwerks site ,select t4 then engine then diesel 1.9 then belt drive then last page.

Hi , a few more questions, should the aaz engine have valve seals? and are the vacuum pump and flywheel the same on the jx and aaz? also what does the oil pick up look like ? Many thanks Pete

The AAZ has valve seals, but no valve shims.
Vacuum pump is different AFAIK.
Flywheel depends on the install. It can be done with either 1.9 or 1.6 diesel flywheels. Latter has a smaller clutch disk. 215 vs 228mm.
The oil pickup/oil pump should be the transporter CS/KY/JX cast alloy one if it is installed with the JX oil sump.
