1.6D Exhaust System

Post by The Hairy Camper »

So I have a 1.9D engine running with a 1.6D exhaust system. I've been running my exhaust without all the mounts attached as I couldn't get everything to line up.

I had a couple of hours to try and get the exhaust to fit again today.

I managed to get the silencer to fit and line up nicely, but this is the best position I could get the downpipe in. It's almost there.

I tried pulling/bending it in situ, but it barely moves. Slackening everything up doesn't help. I'm thinking of taking the downpipe off, adding some heat and trying to bend the end of it by about an inch?

Anyone have any tips?

I just made my own exhaust for my 1.9 - better for the engine as it can then exhaust without constriction.

Cheers Oldie, I believe you used the 1Y manifold. My engine didn't have the manifold when I got it, so I went with the original system. I've been told by a few people it will be adequate enough.

I suppose I could order something from eBay, but the original 1.6 downpipe is so close to fitting. I'm hoping some heat and a small amount of bending should sort it?

So, I added some heat and did a couple of bends using this spare silencer today, and now the downpipe fits.

Everything lines up, so fingers crossed the downpipe holds up ok.
