Recommended Exhaust for an Air-cooled T25

Post by THE KESZTHELY KID »

Good Morning Vanagonisti

The standard exhaust on my twin Weber 34ICT equipped 1980 T25 Westy Joker is getting a bit bit tired and I'm looking for a replacement performance exhaust such as Stainless Steel 2-Tip GT Exhaust System VW T2 Bay 1700,1800,2000cc 1971–1979 VW T25 2000cc Aircooled 1900cc Watercooled to 1984 | Just Kampers
Or if I save my pennies maybe ..  Vintage Speed Stainless Steel Sports Exhaust System, Standard Tail Pipe: AC251818 | Heritage Parts Centre UK
I don't want to 'butcher' the rear valance that some performance exhausts require.
I just want Bezza to breath a bit better after fettling up the Weber's with the correct jets.
All suggestions welcome.

Bestest of Wishes

I have the stainless 2 tip gt on my 1.9 dg motor. Decent fit but quality of some of the welding suspect. Had to take it off after a few weeks to find source of rattle.
See pic. No issues since I welded it up properly.

Thanks for the Heads Up hubcap,

How does it perform on your T25 Wasserboxer? {A 547 LTA where are you now? } Smoother running ? Better fuel economy ?

IIRC These stainless 2 tip Exhausts are covered by a 5 year non transferable warranty.

I had the basic steel one on a WBX 1.9 some years ago and they really are shyte, loud, robs power and fouled the rear valance.

Whether the air cooled motors sit a bit lower I don't know but I would imagine the charisteristics are the same.

There is a stainless silencer that's a copy of the original that might be worth a look?

The twin tip gt one doesn’t fit ( unless they have modified it within the last few months , it touches the rear valance a lot , stock ones are pretty good, the vintage speed ones tend to get crazy hot and burn the paint off the valance

I tried the stock mild steel one years ago, have to agree, it was rubbish, made if tin foil!
This one fits fine, does not foul rear balance, sounds ok too. Burbles nicely. Cant say it adds any performance gains though. Have also tried the single empi manifold with a bike can on. A bit loud without a baffle. Again , no real performance gain. All down to personal taste I guess. At the moment, I like it. 😎
