Engine lid problem

Post by KateLovesPurple »

Hi guys, I need some advice.
Last month I had a breakdown when the redundant oil filler pipe on my 1z conversion split and dumped oil all over the auxiliary belt which spread it all over the engine and engine bay. Anyway, I've been cleaning, rewiring, replumbing, cleaning and just for fun a bit more cleaning. All that's left to do is deal with engine lid. The insulating foam is soaked in oil and I am struggling to clean it. Does anyone have any ideas on how to clean it? Or can I replace the foam?

Liberal applications of TFR - caustic version.

Thanks, I'll give that a try. Do you think the foam will stand a pressure washer or should I just stick to rinsing it with a hose?

Any options for replacing the foam? It's a diesel lid with the moulded black foam.

I reckon that a pressure washer would just tear it to ribbons. I just used a hose on mine. Diesel is a beggar to get out of stuff - I know, I drove past an HGV as its fuel tank split, underneath of my T6 was covered with diesel and half way up the side of the van. That took several washes with TFR to get the majority off so that it didn't stink any more.
