2.1 wasserboxer - massive oil leak

It's getting a new flywheel rather than mess with the old one :-)

Interestingly enough .. When I'd completely stripped this VEGE reconditioned engine from JK - less than 4k miles since it was fitted (albeit 6 yrs), I found the following..
2 cam bearings & 1 main down to copper
1 con-rod fitted upside down 
5 tappets don't hold oil pressure
And  .... the outer crank thrust washer fitted backwards - almost certainly the cause of the failure.

That would explain a lot! So the crank thrust face is also toast then. Be aware that the new flywheels from JP are /were a "throw on from ten feet away" very loose fit on the crankshaft. Basically they had 10x the clearance that they should have had.
Everything has to be checked these days.

I've only had one that was a slightly loose fit, but the new o ring centred it nicely, with negligible runout once torqued down.
