Re: DJ2.1 Rebuild
Ive done the oil pressure relocation as well stu with one of the 0-5 bar senders and a gauge on the dash. One connection to the oil light on dash, the other to the gauge.
I didnt prime the feed pipe on mine, just cranked the engine til the light went out on the dash. Didnt take that much cranking to achive that.
I also used some PTF sparingly on the threads of the sender as I didn't want no leaks as you found out the threads don't seat all the way down.

Re: DJ2.1 Rebuild
Thanks, Steve. A great bit of extra info.
So for now l will keep sender in situ and connect low oil pressure switch wire for initial starting.
Will crank engine with coil lead removed (and earthed) until oil light goes out.

Engine back in. All plumbing and wiring re-connected (except coil lead and fuel injection power).
Ive fitted the new oil sender and wiring. Tomorrow will run a wire from sender to front of vehicle for oil pressure gauge..
Exhaust system will get new gaskets, bolts and nuts.

At what point are the spreader plates deemed worn out?

Too early, Smiffo. I have a major issue. Coolant is coming out of number three exhaust manifold.
I filled it with coolant last night and left it. Today l was fitting up the exhaust and water came out. At first l thought it was the thermostat about. But that is good.
So looks there is coolant in cylinder from a failed fire ring in no 3.
Bugger bugger bugger
Taking spark plug out now. Will come back shortly.

Plug out and Cylinder three is dry.
What is causing water to flood out No 3 manifold head? I can control the flow with the bue cap. Loosen cap and l have my own waterfall coming out of No 3 only. Tighten cap and it stops.
It's a reconditioned AMC head with new springs and valves.
Heeeeelp!!

Re: DJ2.1 Rebuild
Right. Found the answer and lm not a happy man. But it is not water in the cylinder, that is confirmed.
I bought these heads from a respected forum member. But l suspect he didnt know about this either, as he never fitted them.
So whoever refurbed these heads has drilled and tapped out the lower exhaust thread on No 3 into the waterway.
What to do please?

My thumb nail denote how far l can push stick into manifold stud hole. 25mm is the maximum.
Well peeved.

Re: DJ2.1 Rebuild
Oh man, thats not good news. I'm not a WBX guy but does the manifold bolt into the threaded holes? Would it be possible to use an exhaust stud with some kind of loctite to bung it ?

Re: DJ2.1 Rebuild
Is that a new head required, or are they salvageable when drilled too deep?

What is the size of the hole/tapped hole going into the waterway?

Talking to a marine engineer later today.
Im worried about expansions of different materials.
Ideally plug it with aluminium. But head off for that l expect.
I did consider a small plug and JB Weld. Then the stainless steel stud with something around it.
