Garage in or near Huntingdon?

Post by WillieT »

Hi All,
My name is Willie and I have had an '89 T25 hi-top campervan for almost 30 years.
During that time I have replaced almost every moving part (except the gear box) with various
local garages in London.   I have now moved to Huntingdon and am looking for a garage that
has experience of old VWs.  Anything close, say, within 20 mile radius would be OK.
Although it passed its MoT recently, I'd like to get the van checked over before we head off on
another camping trip as recently in France, the accelerator came detached at the pedal.
Luckily we had breakdown cover and the rescue man fixed it on again with a rivet gun but I'd
like to check it is secure and find if anything else is about to drop off!
Thanks for any suggestions,
Willie

I live local to Huntingdon and have had air cooled T25's for a good few years now, but always do my own work.  I used to get them MOTED at Ouse Valley Motors at Warboys. They are more 'mature' and have sympathy with the older vehicle. Might be worth a chat with them?

Dear Jim ('n Rosie),
Thanks for the advice, I'll give them a call.
Cheers, Willie
PS
My kids and we used to love R+J.
Being near the Ouse a narrow boat is tempting but I'm not sure I want another old diesel engine to nurse!

PS again.
I've seen on the web quite a big operation near Cambridge called "Type-2 Detectives".
Have you (or anyone) heard of them or used them?

Type 2 Detectives have been around a while and are quite well known in the air cooled circles.  I've not had any personal experience of them but might be worth giving them a call for advice.

Hi 300CE,
Thanks --- my worry is whether they will know or touch a water-cooled T25 diesel!
Cheers, Willie

If they don't, they may well know someone who can.  :ok

Thanks both,
I sent them an email earlier today but no reply yet.
