Water temperature gauge and oil pressure switch

Post by sump »

Puzzling over which wire goes where on my DG 1.9 engine. We took photo's of where each wire went and put them back as removed from the earlier engine but nothing works.
The wiring diagram I have shows the red and yellow wire going to the temp sender but that's not how it was!
It had a blue wire and a brown underneath?

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Okay the yellow red wire goes to the temp sender on the thermostat housing.

Is it blue / black? That goes to the oil pressure sender underneath the engine - on the engine block between the two middle push-rod tubes under the left cylinder-head.

Brown is usually the earth wire.... but sometimes the sensor wire goes from it's colour to brown, before reaching the sensor.

Have you checked the wire colours in the junction box on the far left side of the engine bay.?
Next to the brake-servo vacuum pipe.
Just in case a previous owner was colour blind.

Maybe one day I might get it finished

Thanks for that. I will check it out and report back. Just one question the temperature sensor has two terminals so if one is the red/yellow. Which wire goes to the other terminal and does it matter which way round?

If it is a two-wire sender, then the other wire is a brown wire to ground.

As for pin orientation - no it does not matter which way round the pins are wired.

It is just a thermo-resistor, and so the resistance is the same wired either way.
