Cylinder head studs

Hi guys can anyone recommend a good I think blind hole tap and die for renewal of the head studs ?many thanks

eeek. How deep is the bolt stud in the hole.

You need to explain exactly what you are trying to do and why, petrol or diesel engine, flat four or inline four ?, it may well be a better bet to take the job to a machine shop who will have suitable tools and access to suppliers for good quality tools if they need something specific and odd

Sorry going to do the top end of my 2.1 dj and have been told to tap all bolts and nuts on the cylinder head studs, for peace of mind when installing new studsand og nuts ?thanks

Tapping out all the head nut threads is always good practice, that way they torque up correctly withput hanging up on any corrosion or sealant muck.
M10 x 1.5 i.e. standard M10 coarse pitch.

The studs will either be perfect or pitted...then the fun starts!

The case end of the head studs are M12x1.5 however...they rarely come out without a fight and there is a fair bit of risk involved.
Inspect them for pitting before even thinking about removing them, if they do need renewing then you will be into a full stripdown in order to heat the case with a propane lamp one half at a time (securely held down) then using a 1/2" drive self-tightening chuck type extractor you *may* be able to remove them.
Irs no picnic and they can sometimes snap off halfway out or just refuse to budge, then twist or bend...
