T3 1986 / Glf 1.9 SDI Exhaust Question

Post by Rickbarr »

Hello all, fairly new to forum and owning my 1986 T3 Hightop .The exhaust has gone for the worse. I d like to replace the lot rather than weld and bit piece it together to keep it going. 1.9 golf SDI engine. Are there full exhaust kits available ? What would be recommended. Cheers

there isn't afaik a complete kit, because the engine is not original to the vehicle and a lot will depend which manifolds were fitted to the engine when the conversion was fitted.
A good exhaust place should be able to build you a decent exhaust system but it'll be a days work so won't be exactly cheap. It depends what you have and what is salvageable, but many engine conversions were done cheap and the exhaust is one area that tends to be cobbled together using what could be salvaged from the original engine mixed with the donor system bits left over when it is pulled from the car, as it seems you are now finding

Cheers Aiden, that's handy to know. By the looks of it the only part of the exhaust that's original from the stock 1.6 is the Silencer the rest of the exhaust was pieced and welded together and not a bad job of it either just has had it's day.
