T25 2.1 fuel injection water cooled losing power on acceleration
Please can anyone offer any advice as I am pulling my hair out. My van was towed back from Cornwall last year and has been in my local garage ever since. The van runs well in the workshop but on the road it coughs and will die if you don't take your foot off the throttle. The following have been changed
Fuel tank
Fuel filter
Fuel pump
Coil
Distributor
ICU
Flexible fuel lines
Temperature sensor
Throttle control switch (could only get a used replacement)
Vane air flow meter (recon)
ECU (tested)
Compression check ok
Fuel pressure check ok
Injectors cleaned
Recon engine a few years back
Can anyone suggest what I might try next? I've had the van since 1997 and am loathe to throw in the towel!
Thanks

Let me get this right;
"the engine will cough and die if you don't take your foot of the pedal"?
Please re-phrase it for the sake of clarity and we can help you.
Engine revs freely in garage. Then....
Either:
Engine dies when you take foot off pedal when driving?
Or:
Engine dies when you push down on pedal when driving?

My 2.1 MV engine van had similar running symptoms you describe,
after a few weeks of failing to get the van to run correctly despite
helpful advice from forum members I converted the van to carb.
The van is now running very smoothly with a standard Pierburg setup
with mechanical fuel pump and a Powerspark SVDA distributer connected
directly to the coil thus bypassing the ECU etc, the vehicle was MOT tested
a couple of days ago and the emissions were CO : 1.6% HC : 211 ppm.
I now have a very simple inexpensive diy fixable system.
Hope this helps.

The van ticks over and revs fine and in the workshop. When you take it on the road it coughs and wants to die and you have to ease off the throttle or it will stall. Hope this makes sense! Any suggestion greatly appreciated.

Thanks for replying. We will definitely look into this and see if it is possible.escovedo wrote: ↑11 Aug 2022, 15:08 My 2.1 MV engine van had similar running symptoms you describe,

There are basically 2 types of 2.1alan rolls wrote: ↑11 Aug 2022, 21:05
Thanks for your suggestions. We have tried the engine earth wire and I think timing has been checked will ask the garage. Sorry not very technical can you tell me what MV, SS and DJ stand for?
DigiJet which is DJ engine code, has vacuum unit on disi and ECU is behind the left side rear lights
Digifant is MV and SS engine codes, no vacuum unit on distributor and ECU lives under rear seat
Whilst sharing a lot of parts they are different operating systems if you like so for fault diagnosis it is important to know which engine one is dealing with
The manuals are available on Syncrosport website and elsewhere so if your garage need documentation and appropriate schematics and fault diagnosis procedures they can get the info
We would be guessing without having the van in front of us so expecting a light bulb moment on a forum is pretty hopeful, but hey you may get lucky
Your man who went to carb above wasn't able/in a position to pay the garage/other reason to do the diagnosis work so for him changing to carb (parts are not always readily available) was easiest option; it won't always be the best or cheapest solution, but it looks like that train has left the station already
