TD sound proofing metal work remove it or leave it?

Post by Stirls2 »

I recently removed the under engine metalwork with the sound deadening material to do some work on the engine, its seems to not make a great difference to the engine noise and was wondering if it would be better to leave it off in respect of engine cooling especially in this hot weather, could always replace it in the winter. Any ideas or comments please.

I’m not sure but I was under the impression that it increases airflow to the engine

Thanks for the replies, I might leave it off for a while and see how it effects engine temperature. I've got a trip down though france soon I'm sure i'll need all the cooling I can get.

VW would not have fitted it if they thought it wasn't needed.

That is true but was it needed for just sound proofing or did it aid cooling too or not?
