Hi all
I've had an oil pressure gauge and oil temp gauge fitted but they don't seem to function correctly.
the oil temp never moves and the pressure sits at the top on 100 (when van started from cold)
the pressure gauge did seem to work when I drove it home, dropping between 25 and 70 psi depending on the revs
this is how it looks in the engine bay, does this look correct? as I don't really want to drive 2 hours back to shop.

Re: Oil Temp and pressure gauge issues
Don’t know if this helps, but here goes.
Firstly, the position of the oil temp sensor (the small one). The oil flow in–and-out of the adapter isn’t clear in the pictures. I can’t see how that can sense the oil temp way out there if there is no flow through the adapter. If it is simply a dead-end tee-in then it can’t work (can it???).
The oil pressure gauge you say worked, so we must be looking at maybe a blown/corroded/loose fuse or a loose/disconnected wire? Those finger tightening terminals on the back of the large sensor might be worth checking for tightness. Has anything else stopped working which might suggest a shared fuse.
One other thing is the wiring in general. Typically the gauge would have on one side a fused and switched live supply with the other terminal wired to the sensor in the rear, which in the case of the oil temp sensor should earthed by virtue of it being screwed in (that said, from the pics is that brass adapter connected to earth? the mounting looks like it might insulate it from the bodywork?) . The wiring for the temp gauge probably follows this, but the wiring for the pressure sensor looks interesting. Where does the brown wire go to – a live supply (which the brown colour suggests?) or an earth? If it is to an earth why take it all that way when there is earth potential bodywork nearer? If it works like that then might be best to leave it alone?

Re: Oil Temp and pressure gauge issues
As Airhead has said, there doesn't appear to be an oil feed going to the pressure sender unit. That's definitely not the way mine (from Brickwerks) is plumbed in.
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Re: Oil Temp and pressure gauge issues
took the van back to where it was fitted, tested everything and seems to work fine now.
The pressure gauge works, and the vans oil runs pretty cold so barely move the gauge.

Re: Oil Temp and pressure gauge issues
Hey again, hoping for more knowledge......
A friend tells me my oil temp gauge should be reading at least 70 degrees and is telling me it can't be working properly, but I've been back to SHC where it was fitted and they've rechecked it all and told me all is OK with it, and it only reads 55 -60 degrees even after a long run.
It's a 1.9 dg
Any input as to what kind of temp is the norm for oil in these engines?
As I paid a "pooh" load to have it installed

Re: Oil Temp and pressure gauge issues
You can't get a meaningful oil temperature measurement where they've put the temp sender. It's not in a hot flow of oil, it's at the end of a dead end hose. No wonder it reads cool!

Re: Oil Temp and pressure gauge issues
I only took it to them as I thought they were specialists on these vans
Is there such a thing as a sump temp sender for these vans? As i can only find them for T 2's

Re: Oil Temp and pressure gauge issues
this is whats been installed on the van, am guessing a temp gauge shouldnt have even been fitted to this then??

E D I T: after emailing brickwerks I'm just gonna fix it myself using a sump plug sender.
definitely wont be going back to the specialists again
