I gave the carb a good clean, and lubricated the fast idle mechanism. I took it for a drive and it was much better.

The only issue left is it does'nt have a very high idle speed on warm-up, it's about 2,100 RPM, does not cut out as it did before, thank goodness.

My guess is a little tweak to give it a tiny bit more cold rev speed, based on the brilliant advice above. Mind you, I am going to go carefully, as I don't wish to make it worse.

I also managed to pick up a used 2E3 carb, which is great as it has given me a much clearer picture of how it works, as stated above, the fast idle is awkward to view in the van. I am going to give it a refurb with a family friend who has stripped a good few old carbs back in the day.

All in all, thanks to the help on here, a great result. :D

Pretty sure at cold idle it should be around 2k so sounds like its OK. Plus this post is pretty old ;)
