Yet Another AAZ question
A very basic question I know, is this the engine oil drain plug?

No, it's a 13mm hex at the other end.

Re: Yet Another AAZ question
Hi cheers for the replies. I can't for the life of me see a 13mm hex. It's not this with the wrong type of plug used is it?

Re: Yet Another AAZ question
That's the one but modified from the original. Could be that the original thread stripped, or the casting broke, and that's the resultant modification.
If you're in terrible difficulty with that plug, you could slacken the oil filler pipe just to the right to drain the oil.

Re: Yet Another AAZ question
I think i might leave well alone with that plug, it looks to have some sort of instant gasket gunk round it too. I'll go from the filler pipe. Many thanks for all your help.

Re: Yet Another AAZ question
That is the later type drain plug ,you may find a regular Alan key may not be up to the job. You could use the other one at the other end of the sump but you will need to raise the back of the van to drain it completely .I think that is a syncro sump with the 2 drain plugs.

Re: Yet Another AAZ question
Later pans had a drain on both ends as the syncros needed the front drain.
VW saved some dimes by making only one pan suitable for both.

Re: Yet Another AAZ question
Now successfully drained, it had well over 5 litres in it! Just to confirm an AAZ takes 4.5 litres? And do I fill the oil filter before putting it on?
Thanks all for the help.

Re: Yet Another AAZ question
As you use the JX setup, JX data is relevant - however, they are the same:
4 litres without and 4.5 litres with filter change.
I usually pour the 0.5 litre into the filter, then it primes quicker.
Just be sure that the oil you pour into the filter is clean.
Fill the exact quantity, run for a while and check the dipstick - it may be out. If it is, then mark the new max.
